Just tell them while you’re really flattered their SOs would want to come all this way for your wedding, unfortunately you’re at the maximum capacity for the venue and are not allowed to invite any more guests otherwise you’ll be in violation of fire and health codes and you hope they understand.

@notintoplanning: Ouch. Well I would use the fire code line for now, and if you’re comfortable with letting him have a seat if you get some No RSVPs I would just let her know you’ll keep her posted. However like you said, if you invite on cousin’s SO you pretty much have to invite the other…

We used the same rule for our guests and we’ve stuck by it. One of FI’s friends broke up with his Girlfriend (who was originally invited) and then asked if he could bring his ex-wife instead. Heck no!!! You can make friends with the other people at your table, be a grown up! I’m refuse to go down that path.

That sucks! Fortunately our wedding party understood the “and guest” (or lack there of) rule.  Your Maid/Matron of Honor is just going to have to deal with it.
