We registered for a Lauren by Ralph Lauren Full/Queen Studio Down Comforter. We got it as an early gift from my mom.
Dont we need a duvet cover for this? Im having a heck of a time trying to find a navy blue one. Ive looked online at Macys. It seems to me that they should put them right on the page with the down comforters.
Why do they constantly show just the plain comforter being used on the bed with no cover? Do people just use the comforter the way it is with no cover?!

No you should definitely use a duvet to cover the comforter. Duvets are lists on a different part of the bedding section on websites. Here’s a link to duvet covers at Macy’s: http://www1.macys.com/shop/bed-bath/bedding/duvet-covers?id=25045&edge=hybrid

My understanding is that a comforter is stand alone, used over your sheets blanket-style. A duvet is comforter-like but is meant to be covered with a duvet cover.

A Down bed covering should always have another cover no matter whether they call it a duvet or a comforter. It helps protect the down and its’ fabric covering so you don’t need to wash it so often, the same way you put a pillow cover on a down pillow before the pillowcase.
Americans have been slower to start using duvets than other countries so they may call it a comforter so people know what it is for.

I always get my duvets from The Company Store. They are great quality and last a long time. I especially love the type that don’t wrinkle!

Have you tried Bed Bath and Beyond? They have a really big selection of solid-colored duvet covers (and you can order online if there isn’t a store by you).
