Hello WeddingBees, a newbie here! We are in the beginning stages of Destination Wedding planning. Looking at the RIU Palace Riveria Maya in Playa del Carmen, Mexico which I’ve visited twice before (and where we got engaged!). I’m looking for any feedback on booking/coordinating via a travel agent, working directly with Apple Vacations (have had good experiences in the past), or working directly with the resort!?! We are looking at 40-50 guests flying from all over the US. I understand I will be working with the RIU wedding coordinator for those specifics, I’m more concerned with travel details.
Any input is MUCH appreciated!

Congrats! We’re getting married at the RIU Palace in Cabo San Lucas – I can’t wait!! We have the same issue, people coming in from all over the place, so we definitely went with a travel agent. We’re using Vacations for Less out of LA and Teresa there has been amazing! The nice thing is people can put down a depost to confirm their rooms and then pay in 3 total payments – definitely makes it a bit easier on the wallet.
If you want her contact info let me know and I’ll email it to you!

I struggled with that question too. We’re getting married in Cuba next May and decided to go with Flight Centre Groups – we have our own travel agent through there that ONLY deals with destination weddings and group travel. She also used to work for Sunwing (which is what our AI package is through), so she knows her stuff. Personally, we went with a TA because it made it easier on us. Our guests can go on the website Flight Centre provides and book their deposit right there or call/email our TA and ask questions and book with her in person or over the phone. We are fielding a few questions here and there but most of it we can just refer to our TA because that’s her job to handle it all. 🙂
