We are having a Destination Wedding in Thailand. I have decided to offer a Thai Set menu. Everyone will have the same 2 starter dishes, same soup and the mains will all be served family style (shared) on the table for people to dish up themselves so they get to choose what they want. I didnt really like any of the thai desserts the resturant offered (eeek, naughty I know), so asked for an Italian style dessert (they also do Italian food at the resturant). I havent confirmed this menu but this is what I was thinking, Any suggestions? Thank you. The food may be written descriptively in a different way for the actual menus I am making but this is taken from the Thai menu choices. I have one peskitarian (spelling? Pescatarian?) guest who hasnt yet confirmed if coming. I tried to have some vege dishes throughout/seafood etc. But I will add a fish main if they confirm. Maybe a fish curry instead of the duck curry?
Minced Chicken Salad Thai Style with lime juice
Phla Pla Muk
Spiced salad of poached squid with roasted chilli paste, lemongrass, chilli & mint leaves
Tom Yam Goong
Traditional Thai hot and sour prawn soup with lime, chilli and fresh herbs

Wok-fried seasonal fresh vegetables with garlic and oyster sauce
Geang Phed Ped Pang
Red curry with roasted duck and seasonal fruit
Kahao Phad Mungsa-virat
Fried rice with vegetables
Nuea Phad Ta-khari
Wok-fried slices of beef in lemongrass and herbs
Gai Tod Sawan

Chocolate truffle cake with Raspberry Coulis and Vanilla Ice Cream.
Edit: I forgot to say all mains will be served with rice.
Edit 2: Fried Rice with vegetables can be subsituted for Fried Rice with egg and shrimp.

I think the duck curry sounds amazing, plus you have the starter, the vegetable dish, the fried rice (I would go for the shrimp fried rice fwiw) and the soup so your pescetarian friend wouldn’t starve.

That sounds like a nice mix of traditional thai food to me and since it’s family style, people can try everything and have more of what they want. I LOOOOVE Thai food, so it all sounds delicious to me. For dessert though, do you have the option of something like mango and sticky rice? I think that’s pretty traditional and so gooood.

@Ellegee: thank you, I will change it to shrimp fried rice.

@pinkshoes: thank you! I think Mango and sticky rice is an option. I have never tried it. I should go to a thai resturant here and order some to try. Thats great to know it is good.

@traveller: i would keep the duck dish and change either the beef or chicken to a fish or giant prawn dish. There are amazing prawns in Thailand. ps. i’m thai.

@traveller: This all sounds delicious! I agree with PP that some prawns added in would be great!
I am also having Destination Wedding in Thailand, however we decided against a sit down meal and are having cocktails and canapes. I am second guessing myself and stressing whether this is enough food? The canapes go for 2 hours (and we have the option of an additional hour if needed). I have been to the resort before and the food is amazing and also very generous. What do you think – will this be enough???

Are you going authentic or is your restaurant toning down the spiciness a bit to adjust for guest expectations?
ETA: Eep, this post is 3 years old. I guess I clicked through to the end instead of the next page on my phone, lol. Sorry bees, carry on!

Just wanted to add that I LOVE mango and sticky rice, its not ‘needed’ in your menu but if you added it I think people would appreciate it because its delicious. I think your menu looks amazing!
Edit: embarassing I just did the same thing! Sorry guys!
