Having a hard time finding plum bridesmaid dresses in my budget. I’m thinking about buying simple white dresses for my maids from somewhere like Macy’s then dyeing them plum. I’d dye them all together so they’d be the same color. Thoughts? Has anyone done this? Is this crazy talk?

What is your budget? There are a lot of plum/eggplant/aubergine dresses out there this year. Have you looked into having someone make the dresses? (I haven’t looked into that option at all, so it might be ridiculously expensive, so apologies if it is).

208bride: It can be done, but you can also end up with a hot mess. Various fabrics absorb the dye at different rates so you may end up with a blotchy dress.
There are companies that do this professionally.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I really want cap sleeve-type straps, sweetheart neckline, and a really specific shade of purple which is one of the problems I think. Plus my dresses have to hit high for a waistline because I’m going to have a 9 month pregnant Maid/Matron of Honor.
I want the color of this dress:
But I don’t like that dress very much. Maybe I’m being too picky.
To answer the question about having it made: I have found some really great dresses on eBay by sellers with great feedback but I’m still gunshy! Maybe I’ll go read some threads about eBay custom gowns.
