I don’t think it’s crazy. I am making my dress and my girls dresses. I think it can be a great experience to do that kind of DIY.

I think that would be an awesome bonding experience for you guys! But I wouldn’t want to put that much pressure on myself. I think I would give it a try knowing that it’s ok to just go and buy a dress if it didn’t turn out the way I wanted.

If my sewing machine worked like my mom’s (you readjust between projects, and that’s it), I’d be making my dress.  Instead, it craps out after five minutes, producing a huge knot.  I end up with five inches for an hour’s work – faster to hand-sew, and I REALLY don’t have time for that!

I bet you can handle it, especially with the classes. My mom enrolled my sister and I in sewing lessons when we were 5 & 7 and we loved it! If you choose a simple design it shouldn’t be too hard.

Good Luck!

I bet you can do it.  If all else fails you can purchase a dress.  However, it will mean more to you and to your step daughter if you try making the dress (great bonding).  Also, it will be more special to her knowing that you worked so hard to create something so pretty for her to wear.  YOU CAN DO IT!

I am thinking the same thing! I can’t seem to find anything I like. I also would like to do the top like the bridesmaid dress then tulle skirt, Let me know if you find a good pattern!

@cyneswith: you need to take your machine in to be cleaned and serviced.

It is well worth the cost.
