happycamper32 :  I agree. I was actually embarassed to walk around with my makeup like that (did the trial before running some errands, like an idiot lol). I NEVER do dark liner like that and actually rarely wear any liner at all, ever. I prefer a more natural look and she just went way over the top with everything. I also asked her not to cake my face with powder (because I’m 44, and while powder may work for younger folks, for me it just cakes and accentuates EVERY line on my face), but she still piled it on. The blush was almost comically too heavy, to the point that I had to run to the bathroom to wipe it off a bit…I could go on. It sucked lol.

I just have to have the conversation with her that I’m basically firing her and want to do my makeup myself. Because she’s FI’s family, though, I have to do it in a way that’s not so harsh. Ugh. But yeah, I do NOT want to look like that on my wedding day! 😂 And even tho she said she’d “tone it down” for the actual day, I don’t really want to risk it.

I’m doing my own hair and makeup. I am very particular about my makeup and I have already decided how I’m doing my hair/practiced the style. My wedding is going to be a pretty casual party in the desert though.

I did my own makeup! I am by no means an expert. I went to ulta and was color matched and picked up makeup that would be photography friendly. I wore the makeup a few weeks before the wedding so I could play with different application methods and watched some makeup tutorials on youtube. I also had lash extensions done a few weeks before the wedding to find a length and look that I liked so that I didnt have to wear mascara.

my sister did my hair that morning for the first time after watching a YouTube video of a style i liked.

Both turned out perfect for our outdoor elopement!

My mum did my hair in loose curls which we practiced beforehand and turned out great.

My friends & I did my makeup which we sort of practiced in different stages but never all together. It was fine but we ran out of time so I barely got to spend any time at all on my brows, lashes & blush. It looked very nice in person but for photographs a bit more in those areas would have been better.

However, I have no regrets and would do it again (with more time – we had allowed for 2.5 hours but it should have been 3.)

ahsoka :  Update! Wedding is over and I do not regret doing my own hair or makeup at all. Doing my makeup was one of my favorite parts of the day, and I am very happy with the results. I got bored doing my hair, but I was using a 3/4” barrel and I have a lot of hair hahaha. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
