I’ve never dyed clothes but do you have a yard/porch> Could you use a big Rubbermaid bin or something to dye it in where you don’t have to worry about dying anything else?

If it is a synthetic material it will not take dye evenly, if it sticks at all, just FYI.

I’ve dyed cotton material with RIT. Used a Rubbermaid bin and propped it in our spare bathroom tub (in case it had to soak longer) Good luck!

First, you are using a grey dye and worried about it coloring a stainless steel pot…isn’t that a non issue due to color choice? haha

More to the point, I have used those big white 5 gallon buckets for tye dye with kids. We used RIT cold water dye. If there is no such thing as cold water dye, we used cold water with RUT dye and it worked well. It was tye dye so I can’t speak for even coverage but I still have a T 5 years later and it is still dyed so it didn’t wash off. I would just go to a craft store with knowledgable sales assistants if you have one nearby (think small craft store, not chain store) and ask for a recommendation if you are still unsure after reading a few packages.

@MrsSl82be – I did use the hottest water available. Used the end of an old sweeper to mix it, then every so often once the clothes were in. I wasn’t able to read (if you noted) what material your dress was? I would suggest browsing online for other dyes, you may find something that is geared towards different types of materials…

@sassyNix:  I did the same for dying my grandma’s crinoline for my wedding. Rubbermaid in the tub, adding in a tish more hot water from the stove  from time to time to keep the temp up, and I aggitated it with my hand in a thick rubber glove for washing dishes. Worked perfectly and it was tidy since it was right in the tub.
