Hope everyone’s having a great weekend! Darling Husband and I went to Costco today, and the Dyson guy was there putting on a sales pitch. All of our vacuums at home are the worst pieces of junk ever, and I’ll admit that I’ve been dreaming big time about getting a Dyson. But I just can’t fathom spending that much money on a vacuum! Those of you who own Dysons – how have you liked it and has it been worth your while? Should we get one?
Thanks in advance for any and all insight!

I have a Dyson Ball and really love it, but only paid $200-ish for it.

@blushpinkbride: What model is it? The one we were looking at is the DC41 Animal Complete and it’s about $450!

@pengoala: That’s what I have! I had a Hoover Wind Tunnel before that. I vacuumed my floor with the Wind Tunnel then went over it with my Dyson. My Dyson picked up so much more!
ETA: The attachment that comes with The Animal is GREAT! It has rotating brushes on the head. It is so handy.

I used one when I was working as a cleaning lady and truthfully I like the eurkea vacum better. I know it does the just as well if not better especially for my parent’s house that has at different points housed ten different animals with fur at the same time.

I know a couple of people with Dysons that swear by them. I used one when I was helping my aunt clean houses (she used to be a cleaning lady) and it was AMAZING. I don’t own one though 🙁

YES. I have the Dyson Ball Pet Version. We have dogs and so it is invaluable. But definitely get it at Costco or refurbished.

@pengoala: I love mine, and my wife has used the newer ones at a cuple of frends’ houses and says they’re even better. I won mine in a contest, though.

Dyson’s are not worth it. They are junk – my college vaccum was better. I had the ball one and a friend had one as well — and they are hard to use, plus they have terrible suction. Miele is the way to go. Its $700, but soooo worth it. I will never buy another vacuum brand again.

I love my Dyson! Way better than any other vacuum ive tried and my parents have a Miele so ive compared. We have the pull behind animal one andca huge shedding dog. Works amazing! I love the extra motors in the carpet attachment!

Thanks to everyone for your comments so far! This is helpful for sure. We have 3 cats, and, subsequently, a TON of cat hair, not to mention I shed a lot.
I haven’t heard of the Miele vacuums, but unfortunately, spending that much money is definitely out of the question for us!
So far it sounds like there are people both for and against, but i’m loving hearing your comments for both sides! 🙂 Keep ’em coming, if you have more thoughts!

I have two cats and LOVE our Dyson. It was a christmas gift from my parents and they got it at Sam’s Club. It was probably one of the best gifts I’ve ever gotten. I’m even registering for some attachments to pimp out my dyson. It has really helped with the cat hair and dust accumulation in our tiny apartment.

@pengoala: Thanks to my parents, I now have two of them — one upstairs, and one downstairs (so I don’t have to keep carrying it up and down my steps.) Both are different model Dyson Animals purchased in different years. I love them.

@pengoala: Oh yes! I cannot imagine cleaning my home with anything else!
