The important part of the engagement pics to me were to just figure out how to be photographed.  We really loosened up.  I would say it depends on how much extra it is.  I wouldn’t have paid for them but I’m glad they came included.

@HoneyBear: LOL!!!! Is that their cat?! SO wrong!

to the OP – I wouldnt do in studio engagement photos because I think they look really awkward! It is not a waste to do on location e-pics at all! It might be the only other professional pictures you and your Fiance have together besides your wedding

I would never do a studio engagement even if it’s free, but that’s just me. They are posed and boring where you stare at the camera for how long?? I’d rather be outside at the beautiful location, nice nature, park, whatever, where you can really be yourself and enjoy it. I fee like studio is just a box where you closed in and have no place to move, just not natural for this type of photos. Now, if i have to have an executive head-shot, then it’s a different story LOL.

We did them around a town square and it couldn;t have been more fun and more us. Posing in a studio just doesn’t really get the gist of who you really are.

I’d pay extra to do it on location! In my case our location fit our theme and personalities. Thus the environment affected our posing and expressions which resulted in gorgeous and exciting pictures we love. All you can do in a studio is sit or stand 😐

Studio pictures are so old fashioned and cookie-cutter. It evens robs you of getting to know your photographer which is one major advantage of having an e-session. If I couldn’t have the option to do an on-location e-session, then I wouldn’t have an e-session at all.
