My Future Mother-In-Law just called to say that she was planning an "e-shower" for me and my Fiance. Apparently she is going to send out e-vites to my FI’s side of the family with a specific date that people should send gifts by…there will be no actual shower and we will not be broadcasting it via webcam. I’m not sure I completely understand what will be happening but it makes me kind of uncomfortable! Everyone is spread out across the country, we had assumed we would not be having a shower (which we were fine with). Has anyone heard of, "been to", or understand this?!?!

I have not heard of this, but I heard of a "Bridal shower by proxy" which is a shower minus the bride. Here is an article about that, maybe it will help?

Huh! That’s interesting! Are most of the guests — family or friends — NOT in the area?

We really are all over the place! I am in NC, his immediate family in IL, he is in Iraq, family in MI, ME, VI, CA….we’ll be lucky to get everyone in for the wedding, people would definitely not come in for a shower, I had just assumed we wouldn’t have one!

My family is spread all over the country as well. For one of my cousin’s weddings we had wrapping parties. It worked like this: the people that were in similar areas would get together and bring their shower gift unwrapped then they’d all wrap together and take pictures etc. Then the pics and gifts were mailed to the bride. She then opened them at her ‘unwrapping’ party, which was just her friends in the area.
