For a couple months now, my right ear feels partially clogged. It doesn’t affect my hearing or balance, but it’s like there’s an annoying swishing off-and-on.
Any ideas how to clear it without having to go to a doctor? I’ve put drops of peroxide in it, which hasn’t helped. I’m thinking of getting an aspirator and trying to flush it out.

@abbyful: It could be ear wax build up. This happens sometimes to my Fiance and I found some drops at the pharmacy that help him. They come with an ear irrigation rubber bulb thingy . . . can’t think of the name of it offhand but it should be easy to find. You can ask a pharmacist. He just lays on his side and I drop the drops in his ear canal. Then he waits there for several minutes and then uses the bulb thing, with water, to flush out the wax.

I work for an ENT Dr. Ear, Nose, & Throat. My advise to you is to NOT put qtips or peroxide in your ears. Do not put anything in your ears. Call your local ENT and let them clean your ears and do the necessary checks. I know you dont want to go to a DR. But better safe than sorry.

@Sunfire: Debrox! I’ve used it. I get frequent ear wax buildup. :-/ Also – sounds weird but my doc recommended it – a few drops of a liquid laxative in each ear once a month keeps the wax soft so it’s easier to remove.

@Sunfire: Agreed! And the drops are great. They are in the “ear and eye” aisle at the drug store.

DO NOT TRY TO GET IT OUT YOURSELF. I know you said no doctors, but I will share my experience. Last summer the same thing happened to me, and I tried to use the ear wax removal kits and q-tips. I stuffed it even further in, and I got a horrible ear infection.

Sounds like earwax, I have the same problem. My ENT, Family Doc, and an Urgent Care NP all have told me to use Debrox and it works very well! Do NOT use q-tips, it just pushes the wax farther down the ear canal. Also, my ENT suggested using a few drops of baby oil once a month in your ear to keep things lubricated.

Please go to the Dr! I ended up with hearing loss in an ear because I thought I just had a wax problem and tried all the home remedies. Yep I majorly screwed myself over. I will never get the hearing back either 🙁 Don’t be like me, take your booty to the Dr.
