So yesterday had some rust colored spotting when wiping after using the bathroom. I just had a bowel movement and noticed this after it. I called the OBGYN on call right away who told me to lay down with my feet up and if the bleeding stopped all should be fine. Sure enough, it stopped immediately. I then called the OBGYN and stopped in today just to be sure. She confirmed its old blood, nothing new and that she’ll see me at my 10 week appointment next week.
Anyone experience this and have it be OK? We tried to hear a heartbeat with the doppler but at just 9 weeks it was too early.
I’m sure this thread is going to worry me sick even more with people urging me to get a ultrasound or blood test but my first full OB appt isn’t until next week Thursday and after being seen I feel slightly better.
Any experiences out there?

I had that too and it turned out to be ok. It happened twice, usually in the 24h after having sex. My doctor still wanted to examine me and at 11 weeks we heard the heartbeat for the first time. She examined my cervix and sent me for an ultrasound to make sure that the placenta wasn’t too close to the cervix.
In the end, all was fine, she recommended no intercourse for three weeks, and it never happened again after that. 31 weeks now.

mommytobee thanks for the info! Yeah, I’m on “pelvic rest” aka no sexy time for the next 3 weeks as well. I have my 10 week appt next week which is the first full OB appt. I already had an ultrasound at 6 weeks 5 days where we saw baby was in the right place and had a strong heartbeat.
Doctor checked me out and sent me on my merry way, still pretty scary though!

I had something similiar to this at just over 9 wks. But mine wasn’t “old blood” – it was bright red and a fair amount. I was going to a movie with hubby and when I went to the restroom there was quite a lot of it – like I had started my period. But after that first “gush” there was nothing more. I called my doctor and they did another ultrasound the next day and said everything was fine – they told me what I had was called a subchoronic hematoma (sp) and it’s fairly common. Essentially there were some large blood vessel by the placenta that burst but nothing that was harming the baby. I was also told to refrain from intercourse for 4 wks and to change my workout from running to walking during that time. I’m now 31 wks and never had any more bleeding other than occasional spotting after sex.
Best thing to do is rest and try and relax. My doctor told me as long as it isn’t bright red and flows like a period you should be fine.

I had it once, the morning after having sex. I think I was around 5 weeks.

Thank you ladies!
I had the dickens scared out of me yesterday that’s for sure!! These stories have given me a lot of relief though. I haven’t had any cramping or gushing of blood so I’m going to assume its similar to what you ladies have experienced.
