To change my name at my gym, I had to personally bring a certified copy of my marriage license and my updated social security and drivers license.
To change my name on my life insurance policy, I called a phone number and gave the call-center rep my new name, no questions asked.
I just find this strange….
Did you experience any company that was either overly cautious or not cautious enough?

I haven’t had any issues, even over a year later when I finally got around to getting mine changed. The one that gave me the biggest hassle was our union hall and most of the leadership was at our wedding.

The gym!! Thanks for the reminder! I hope it’s not that complex with mine.
I was surprised that CC’s were done over the phone, and the bank I had to go in for, but our auto loan (same bank) will have to be done over the phone. And than title & registration will have to be done after that. The cable company said I had to mail im a form and for electric, they told me I had to either wait for equifax to update or fax our marriage certificate.
I feel like this process will never end.

I was surprised by PayPal. They let you sign up by just proving your bank account or credit card account are really yours and have the same name on them. But when I went to change my name, which was already changed on that same bank account and credit card, they asked me to scan in or mail a photo copy of my marriage certificate and photo ID to prove my identity. No idea why they needed the photo ID, since they don’t know what I look like. I tried scanning in my marriage certificate, but they said the scan wasn’t high enough resolution. I decided that mailing stuff to them wasn’t worth my time, closed that account and opened a new one with the new name within a few minutes.
