After a few previous posts I am almost ready to pull the trigger on a DIY ‘Destination Wedding’ in St.Michaels MD but there are 2 line items that are haunting me. The biggest issue I have is selecting a planner. I have already done a ton of research and budgeting and will be DIYing alot so I really only need day-of-coordination and a bit of vendor coordination at the front end, since I’m in CA. My budget for this item was originally around $1000 but everyone I’ve contacted start at around $1800. I know it’s not all about money (and I want to give people what they think they deserve!) but doubling my budget when I feel like all I need someone to do is follow the plans I have laid out and help me let go on the day of, seems extreme. I am having the saem issue w/photographers. I was thinking of 2500-3000 for 8hr session w/2 people. Again, many people start at double that pricing.
Anyone have any suggestions? Or a reality check haha?
(Nothing is set so, if you also have recommendations on the following rentals I’d love to hear!!: tents, tables, chairs, linens, lighting)
Thank you in advance. I know you Bee’s have some serious skills!

Our photographer http://www.kgmexpressions.com/
travels and has a number of reasonable packages.
Can’t help on the planner. Best of luck – that is a beautiful area!!

Speaking as a wedding photographer, a good wedding planner / day of coordinatior is worth their weight in gold! 😉 Seriously….if there is one “splurg” item outside of your standard wedding costs (venue, photog, catering, flower)….it’s the coordinator.
Sending you a PM!

Your budget is not reasonable for that area. We got married in Easton (1 town over from St. Michaels) and paid $2500 for a single photographer for 8 hours… and those we’re rates booked 5 years ago! Our DOC was $1200, again for rates booked 5 years ago. And they were both bargains at that time point.

We were married in St. Michaels in June. Our photographer was amazing. Laura Olson from In His Grace photography. She was awesome! 🙂

I had a destination wedding, and I hired http://www.michellelytle.com
. She travels with her wife for destination weddings, and it was cheaper for me to fly her and her wife to Mexico to shoot our wedding than it was to find someone local. Try finding someone who is talented and experienced but also enjoys traveling–you can get a great deal that way! I highly recommend who I used too!
