Personally, I find this disgusting for anything long term or that might be shared with a bunch of people. If there’s only a bit of ice cream or something like that though, and I know Darling Husband or I will finish it off later that night I don’t have an issue eating straight from the tub.

We are not allowed to do that here; everything must be put in a dish. DH’s rule, but I agree on this one.

I think the only thing I eat from the jar is caramel sauce (love the fleur de sel stuff from Trader Joe’s). Ice cream, never.

@AB Bride: this is exactly why I hate to eat food that other people have made! I eat peanut butter out of the jar but I’ll only get one spoonful. If it’s a rough day and I need that second spoonful, I get a new spoon. Fiance thinks I’m nuts.

Darling Husband and I are absolute monsters about this, because it’s just the two of us so we don’t care. We drink entire jugs of milk/juice without ever pouring any into a glass. It’s a terrible habit but it doesn’t hurt anyone so we just don’t worry about it! haha we’ll have to stop before kids get old enough to start trying to copy us though …

@BruinBeeMPH: Darling Husband used to do it with peanut butter and it grossed me out. I got him to stop, but if I was making a dessert, I would have bought a brand new jar back then!
The last option is how things like herpes get spread! So gross!

If it’s the last portion and you finish it in one sitting, that is ok. Otherwise, never!

@iarebridezilla: And yet he manages to go through 5 spoons in 24 hours… LOL
I do not double scoop out of other people’s food. Gross

I double dip anywhere that feels like home and the occupants are people I share food and drinks with anyways. This includes my house, my mom’s house, and my really good friends houses.

As I look to my husband who is currently eating peanut butter from the jar with a spoon…..
It’s something I grew up with. No problems with it here.

We do it, but its just my Fiance and I. I wouldn’t do it if anyone else were living in the house.

He and I share everything except a toothbrush so we double dip into the food all the time.

@AB Bride: One of my worst habits is eating straight from the jar. I do this with peanut butter and Nutella. I’m kind of crazy about it, though … Not because my fiance and I worry about germs or anything, but because I never know if I’ll be preparing something for guests using that same jar. I dip the spoon in, get a huge spoonful, eat it, rinse off the spoon, and deposit it in the dishwasher immediately. If I want more, I have to use a new spoon. That’s my rule for myself. I’m pretty sure my fiance wouldn’t care what I did as long as I left some for him!

I used to drink milk straight out of the carton when I lived alone. I did it once at my parent’s house because I wasn’t thinking about it and my mom walked in and told me I better take that milk with me 🙂
I don’t do it with anything else though (and I don’t do it with milk anymore either). I just picture the germs from my mouth hanging out in whatever the food is and multiplying and that grosses me out!

I started thinking about it and well i would put my spoon back in the peanut butter jar. or left over container. i hate it when Darling Husband drinks out of the carton but secretly with no one there i do it once in a while. nothing that i would take to a potluck though. i double dip every where too! When i first met Darling Husband i at first didnt feel comfertable enough to do this but him and his brothers (there are 3 of them) they were all passing a tub of ice cream around with one spoon….i was totally grossed out but its been 8 years dating him and i cant deny ive done that now with out a blink of the eye.;P
