So I bought a diamond ring of ebay for 2k. It was advertised as a 2ct diamond ring with only one ugly photo and no more info. Seller accept returns so I bought it thinking I can give it a shot and return if I didn’t like.
So the ring shows up and it’s the ugliest i3 diamond ever. I decide to return inmediately and print a return shipping label using ebay return service, because if you can’t trust an ebay service then what can you right?
Few days later I get an ebay message saying item was delivered at mailbox. All is well. Soon after seller opens a case saying “I received confirmation it was delivered but my mailbox is empty, what to do?”.
My heart sank. I cried, I message her telling her where I shipped the item (her paypal address) and that maybe she has an old address registered. No answer, now I’m just waiting to hear back from ebay, eating my nails and all.
End rant. 🙁

If you have proof of lodgment and proof that it was delivered, then isn’t the fault with the postal company?

What about tracking the shipping. If you have that then the postal office can look into where it went and if the delivery is verified.

vindemiatrixx: Sounds like a scam. If you mailed it with the recipt then there is nothing they can say…right? 😛

Doesn’t eBay require signature confirmation for items over a certain dollar value? If not, they should. Since you used eBay’s return service, I assume the item was shipped under their stipulations, and the fault should lie with the shipper. If this turns out into a nightmare and they attempt to shift the blame to you, use this as a lesson to insure high value shipments and require signature confirmation. The extra $5-$10 is worth the peace of mind. So sorry you’re going through this 🙁

I think you’ll be okay, eBay usually sides with the buyer in these types of things and it sounds like you have proof of delivery.

The tracking says delivered. Ebay notified me the item was delivered. What’s weirdest is the seller emailed me right after I posted this thread. She said maybe it went to one of her neighbor houses. I hope it turns out if she’s saying the truth. But whatever happens I don’t wanna be out of 2k.
Thankfully I payed with paypal credit and didn’t pAy it yet. I’m thinking I will escalate this to the max to get my money back, otherwise I will not pay, even if my credit goes to the popper.. don’t really care 🙁
I hope maybe she’s being truthful and maybe it will turn up. I’m so upset

I hope you get your money back. But a 2ct diamond for $2000 should alert you that something isn’t right – a thing that sounds too good to be true probably isn’t. There are much better sites out there for buying used jewelry if you’re in the market.

I had this happen to me with a cell phone (not 2k but still a few hundred dollars) and ebay refunded me even though the seller never rec’d the item – it got lost in the mail. The return label they sent me was for First class mail, not Priority Mail.

A few months ago, I purchased something off a Buy It Now auction. The tracking said it was delivered – it wasn’t. I never received it. The seller had done what he was supposed to, and ultimately it was my loss. He was not responsible for the post office. It was a learning experience for me and a first in over 10 years on eBay. I was grateful it was an inexpensive item (maybe $10 or $15).
I think you should re-read the eBay policies regarding this issue, and perhaps post on their forum for some guidance. It was shipped through eBay with tracking. If the seller says he or she didn’t receive it, I don’t think you are held responsible. I would open a dispute immediately, and email the seller recommending they contact their local post office for follow up.

I had something similar happen with a $20 video game. I was the seller and I ended up eating that one. Hopefully they will prevail in your favor.
