I am looking into buying some brooches off of Ebay for the wedding. I have never used Ebay before, and I am not familiar with it at all.
My question…. Is it reliable? Are items that cost $0.01 for real (from China)? Legit? I have found brooches for $0.01, and I would rather pay that price if the ‘Ebay’ way is a good way to shop.
Any advice or testimonials are greatly appreciated.

@parada: I shop from e-bay all the time. I only purchase products that offer paypal option as it is a secure way to purchase things.
I was looking around for pearls and rhinestones and got them at a amazing price on e-bay.
Yes it comes moslty from china and it is cheap. Takes 3-4 weeks to get here but it’s well worth it to save money.

Just make sure you check the feedback on the seller. Make sure it’s more positive, do your research.

@Lulume: this. I don’t purchase/bid from anyone <98% positive.
keep in mind shipping charges on top of the $0.01 price btw 🙂 and then I’ve waited easily 1-2 months for things from China, so give yourself a generous buffer! (i.e. order way ahead of time)

ok I think the one you are looking at is where you have to bid on. Thats not the final price. If you don’t want to bid then look at the buy it now section

I use ebay all the time, in fact just won an auction and paid for it within the last half an hour. I do the option of US only for ebay and always check the sellers ratings. Out of the 2 years been buying off of ebay only had 1 dispute due to seller not selling what was sent to me.

@parada: I bought LOTS of wedding jewelry from ebay seller (FROM CHINA) hotbidparadise. Bracelet for $10, earrings for $12, etc. VERY HAPPY in that sense but I did vote “somewhat successful” because it’s not always a good transaction, check reviews and you should be fine.
If all else fails Paypal sides with the buyer 99% of the time so you’d still get your money back. It’s just a bit of a hassle.

I’ve never had a bad eBay experience, but I always purchase/bid from sellers that have stellar feedback.

I love ebay as a buyer and a seller.
I don’t buy or sell often, but I make sure I know everything about it first, so it tends to go very well.
I wouldn’t buy something heavily knocked-off on ebay. It’s almost guaranteed to be a knock-off.
I wouldn’t buy jewelry from China. It’s virtually guaranteed to be made out of lead and cadmium.

I bought from ebay for years and then had a problem. A seller (with an excellent rep) from out of the country had an item for sale, which I bought through paypal, and he never shipped it. I registered a complaint with paypal and I was DENIED. The seller claimed I had refused my package at the door, which is ridiculous. At the time, I was unemployed and was home all day; a package never arrived. Thankfully, I only lost out on $20, but I was pretty upset. I’ve never had any problems with sellers from the U.S. or Canada. Oh, the crazy thing was this seller actually had the nerve to post something negative about me, after I posted my experience. At the time I had at least 20 references from various sellers stating that I was an “A plus plus plus buyer.” Haven’t used ebay since.

@parada: Yeah, I was pretty shocked as I’d never had any problems for several years. What I would do, if I were you, is scour their reviews *thoroughly* to see if they have *any* complaints. Those with complaints are pretty specific as to what went wrong. After I got burned I went back and looked at this seller’s reviews (again) and even though they were few and far between, everyone seemed to have had the same problem as me: not receiving their shipments. This particular seller would have maybe one complaint every six months or so, but they were all the same. But, I would also like to add I did deal with several sellers out of the country (Thailand), where I bought some really pretty (tiny) sapphires and had no problems. Just proceed with caution and don’t spend too much, in case you get burned.

as long as the feedback is good. i have gotten some great stuff but i was stiffed by a chinese company who sold me a wedding dress. had to keep it after trying to return it….payed the shipping and they still sent it back lol. so also some times its way better to keep it and score them low then to try and return it
