so i’m still struggling trying to find a photographer. i had originally budgeted 10 grand but now i’m rethinking it.
keep in mind that my two favorites (who aren’t available):
were $2400 and $3200 for an entire day, respectively. including high res images and an album (at least for the first gal). so now i’m sifting through everything from the image is found, to the wiebners, to everything in between…….and i just can’t justify spending $10,000-18,000 on photos where only 10-20 are fantastic (ie the ones you see on the blog – if you ask to look at proofs of entire weddings from most photographers, there’s much to be desired). i’ve been going through that post that mrs. bee made about everyone’s favorite photogs, but most of them are super famous and super expensive. there must be some affordable ones who aren’t quite as famous……
so does anyone have any suggestions of edgy/artistic/unconventional photographers in their own areas that are well under 10G’s?

Hi Miss Milkshake! You mentioned the Wiebners, and of course I’m biased because they’re my photographers…. But, just to let you know, they did let me see 3 or 4 full wedding proof sets on their proofing website before we hired them, and I was pleasantly surprised by how many great pictures there really were. I felt the same way as you with only seeing the "best" of what photographers offer on their websites, and I wanted to make sure that even the posed shots with family members (those that can be a bit more "boring") still had some artistry and interest to them.
Don’t get too discouraged…. it can’t hurt to keep contacting new photogs and asking to see full albums, because you may be surprised!
Have you looked into Miss Tulip’s photographer, Punam Bean? Even with travel expenses to get to your wedding, you’d probably still be able to come in under budget.

If you have that kind of a budget I don’t think you will be dissapointed with some of the big photographers out there (though I haven’t been a client and seen a whole wedding from any of them as you mentioned). Maybe look at Jasmine Star, Jessica Claire, Kelly Moore, JoePhoto… Looking at who you mentioned you like, they would be a similar look.Â
If you are willing to consider someone more humble – I would love to be considered and my rates would allow me to travel to wherever you are for well, well under your 10k budget. I don’t want to get too vendor-y on here as I love being able to participate as just a person, but my info is in my profile.Â
Best of luck!Â

We just booked our photographer this month for a $3500 package – she even upgraded us on a few items! yay!!! My Fiance and thought, hands-down, she was the most artistic of the 5 photogs we met personally with in SoCal. I’m pretty certain she travels to wherever necessary. http://www.chelseaelizabeth.com/ Good luck!

Woohoo for photogs that travel!
I’ve seen Paul Johnson (from FL) with some beautiful pics! (Was in the 9-11k range)
Also liked (portfolio and in person) Genya Garret of VUE photography. (was in the 5-7k range)
and I love love love my photog (Rae Leytham) and they travel! (in the 4-7k range)
RAE LEYTHAM ROCKS!!!
I love love love her. Absolute best decision I have made for the wedding (and thats saying something because I got a deal on my dress and I love it.)
And this is how I picked her:
Oh – and I did a boudoir shoot with them. WOW!! So fun and amazing amd my Fiance is going to flip when he sees my (tastefully) uber sexy shots!!
Cannot reccommend enough!
