I’m from Fort Mac, getting married October 2017 in Calgary! I know it’s early and I wasn’t planning to go dress shopping just yet, but I’m staying in Edmonton for the first few weeks of June (working here until my company gets all set up again in Fort Mac after the fires) so I figured since I’m here I might as well start looking around just to get an idea of what I might like! The trouble is I have no idea where to look, so I am looking for bridal shop recommendations in both Edmonton and Calgary. I’m going to start in Edmonton but the original plan was to dress shop in Calgary, so I’ll probably end up there eventually as well. Does anybody have any recommendations for places to look at? Or places to AVOID at all costs?
FYI my budget is probably going to be a maximum of $4000-$4500, but I don’t need to spend that much and in fact I would prefer to keep it closer to $3000 if I can. So if you know of a place that had great prices let me know! 🙂

I haven’t been, but always loved creeping Novelle in Edmonton – they have some gorgeous designers and a ton of their dresses listed online (with the price): https://novellebridal.com
Congratulations and have fun shopping!!

Durand Bridal in Calgary! I have been there with a few friends and they were wonderful.
on another note, I hope you are doing okay after the evacuations. I am a bit south, but you are all in our thoughts.

Go to Bragging Bride in Calgary! It is a consignment store of mostly new dresses. The ladies are super nice and helpful. There’s the most selection if you are an “average” size, and you can’t be on the hunt for a particular dress. Most of their dresses are well under your budget. I know about a dozen friends (myself included!) who found their dress there. Mine was $800, and was even hemmed to the right length! Meant to be.
Since you have a very nice budget – check out The Bridal Boutique on Elbow Drive and Frocks on 12th Avenue. They have more designer gowns.
Congrats and have fun shopping!

Novia Mia on 17th Ave in Calgary is amazing, they have a great selection of designers. I got my David Tutera gown there. I also hear the Cameo and Cufflinks is great for finding designers you may not find at other stores.

I second Durand Bridal, they are so lovely there! They really care about each and every Bride. The Manger is always there too and checks in regularly. I went there first and more or less fell in love with the 2nd dress I tried on. My appointment was interrupted but a very loud Bride who was picking up her dress that day. I really didn’t notice anything or really care but after my appointment I was contacted by my dress consultant and she told me if I decided to go with the dress I love or any other dress from there I would be offered a 10% discount because of the interrupting. To me, that was super thoughtful.
I ended up going to other dress stores however found myself back at Durand and purchasing that Dress. I just picked up my dress last weekend (they don’t offer in-house alterations but they give you a recommendation) and every appointment I was treated so nice. My Bridesmaids also got their dresses from there and we are just awaiting those.
I cannot say enough about Durand 🙂

If I were going dress shopping in Edmonton, I’d honestly probably hit up West Ed first haha. There’s three or four bridal stores there, so lots of selection.

Hello Calgary bride! I hope everything is going ok for you in light of the fires.
My recommendations for Calgary are:
Cameo & Cufflinks: good selection and price range for dresses. They have LOTS of gowns in your price range (Legends by Romona Keveza, Jim Hjelm, Alvina Valenta, Hayley Paige). I got particularly good service from Nicole–try to get an appointment with her if you can. You can take pictures.
Beautiful Bride: a smaller shop that carries lots of Essence of Australia and Martina Liana gowns. My consultant was really nice. You aren’t allowed to take pictures until you purchase from them.
Frocks: I went here with a friend when she was shopping. They have more modern-styled gowns. I liked them. You can take photos.
I haven’t been to Pearl & Dot or The Bridal Boutique, but I’ve heard good things about them.
Oh, and visit Delica Bridal in Edmonton!
Good luck with your dress search!

Lots of awesome recommendations everybody! Thank you! I’m gonna have a blast shopping 🙂
Thanks I will check Durand out! And thank you for your note about the fires, it’s been tough, but our house is fine and we got our kittens out ok and everything. We are really so, so lucky. I’ll get to go home soon! 🙂
Thanks! I was actually looking at Cameo and Cufflinks and Delica… because I LOVE Hayley Paige’s dresses! Glad to hear that they have good service! And thank you, I am doing ok, our house is alright so we are super lucky. I’m just stuck in Edmonton for a little while longer for work. After the first week or so once I was over the initial shock, thinking about wedding things was a great distraction from constantly watching the news and reading about Fort Mac on facebook. Hence the dress research and shopping! On to happier things and rebuilding our city 🙂

I went to Beautiful Bride, The Bridal Centre, and Novia Mia in Calgary when shopping for my dress. I had a lovely exprience at all three shops, and ended up purchasing from Novia Mia.
At Beautiful Bride my consultant let my mom take a few pictures of my favorite dress. At The Bridal Centre you can’t take pictures unless you buy a membership. The membership does get you a discount if you end up buying from there though. Novia Mia let me take pictures as well.
Good luck finding your dress!

Cameo and cufflinks has a HUGE Hayley Paige selection and it’s a beautiful store.
i am hoping to check out the bridal boutique also in Calgary. I’m hunting down the “Paige” gown and they are the only retailer that will actually get it in, rather than me having to order the sample in!
