I wouldn't. It might fall off during the mail process and maybe leave a mark. : (13 votes)

@Mammy:  i don’t think a pearl would be necessary.  i like the invites the way they are.  i wouldn’t want to interfere with the bunch of roses in the middle.  you can always put a pearl on (just for show) to see how they look before committing to the idea.

what do just the invites look like?  is there a spot for a pearl on them?  i do like the idea of embellishing them, it just has to be done tastefully.  those invites are so pretty.

After creating many invitations for family and friends over the years (I’m a graphic designer) I very consciously kept mine as simple as possible. Extra hand-work adds so much time to an already time consuming task and adding more weight can really add to your postage (unless your wedding is very small or your budget is not tight). I think it is best to leave them simple and clean! 🙂 Good luck, your theme sounds beautiful and fun!

While it’s a nice choice aesthetically, unless you’re hand-delivering these I think the addition of a three-dimensional element is asking for trouble. It makes it harder for the mail to go through (even if you get it hand-cancelled) and begs for something to get caught and tear the envelope.

My cousin did two very small flat pearls on their invitation.  They stayed on and looked nice.  The envelopes did have small divots on them where the rounded pearls were poking through the envelopes.

On mine I’m doing small rhinestones (at the center of some firework type images).  I test-mailed an invitation using rhinestones one size larger than the ones I am using and they came through OK, but had divots.

I don’t think you need them, but I think you could if you didn’t go too big.

I know you already decided on what to do with your invites, but I just wanted to say that these are absolutely beautiful!

@Mammy:  I really like them too. Love your theme. Lace, pearls, and mismatched china are some of my favourite things!!

Love it the way it is!  I think a pearl might distract from the simple elegance you have going on.
