I’m not, but it was so sad to hear that a Canadian man who just got married two days ago at the resort died while his wife and 1 year old daughter survived.  This was along with the other 8 people who passed away.  How tragic 🙁

That is sad!! Wow, you never know the timing, that’s why it’s important to get right with God.

Just found out this hotel was meters away from the hotel my sister stayed at in August (Grand Sunset Princess.)  She is also to return in April for a friends wedding.  Totally scary.

Honestly, forget future wedding plans. It’s devastating that people lost their life…. any interference of future plans is nothing.  We just got back from Cancun last week, this is beyond tragic.

@KLP2010: Completely agree. The lives lost are far more shocking and terrible than the spoiled wedding plans.

i was freaked out when i heard because for MONTHS i was planning to get married at that resort. we had to change countries (FMIL’s doctor said she shouldn’t go to Mexico).  But i had gotten attached to that resort and was instead planning to go there for a future anniversary.

and yes, i cannot get over how SAD it is that those people died!! no one’s life is more or less important, but i think a lot of us on here can relate most to the woman who lost her husband because they were there for their wedding!!! i don’t even want to imagine what that pain must be like!

all of it is so tragic…for anyone who was there.

My friend (who is also my boss) was at that resort during the explosion. I haven’t spoken to him personally, but apparently he is VERY shook-up. The story I have heard so far is that the safe in his room supposedly didn’t work so he hid his passport and the money required to leave the country in his room. After the explosion hotel staff were not allowing people access to their rooms. When he was finally permitted to re-enter his room, his room had been “tossed” and his passport was stolen. He was supposed to fly home yesterday but they won’t allow him to fly without his passport so he has to wait on a new one. I understand the reason for these laws…but at the same time he has all of his other ID and was travelling with a group of 10 other people.

He told my other employer that the people he has had to deal with are very corrupt. Everyone has their hand out. When he was at the police station (reporting the passport theft) he asked for a cab to be called for him but the “police chief” insisted that he call his father to come pick up my friend instead. Well, this upstanding police chief’s father was trying to sell prostitutes to my friend during the ride (pimp?) as well as charged him a great deal for the ride.

It sounds like a bad movie! Currently he is staying at a hotel near the airport because he didn’t want to go back to the resort. I just really hope he gets home soon…and safely. There have been so many kidnappings, assaults and disappearances etc. there lately. I have travelled quite a bit but I will never go to Mexico. I feel so bad for all of the people (and their families) who lost their lives. Very sad and tragic.
