Ok, so this weird thing happened today while I was having dinner with my in-laws. My Mother-In-Law tells me that she got a phone call from her sister last week and the sister apparently was all excited because her husband said I told him I was pregnant! I am NOT pregnant and I don’t know what this guy is smoking but I said nothing even remotely hinting at my being knocked up. I saw the aunt and uncle last weekend at a small family gathering and the only sentence I uttered to this man was “Good to see you, Uncle’sName” as I was leaving. It’s possible he misheard something I said during a conversation with someone else but I can’t recall what I would have been talking about that would lead someone to believe I’m expecting.
My Mother-In-Law quickly dispelled the rumor so I don’t think it spread to any other relatives. We all laughed about it at dinner but I keep trying to figure out HOW he got this idea in his head!
Just thought I’d share because it’s so baffling to me. Can anyone relate!?

Whaaaat. Not cool, but good for you for being able to laugh at it! My husband’s relatives wish I were pregnant, so I could see someone accidentally starting it as speculation / wishful thinking.

This makes me laugh! So what if a rumour is going around that someone is pregnant… obviously they’ll find out in a few months it was just a rumour and get mad at the person who started it!

I’m not upset or anything, I’m just baffled by the whole thing. 🙂

Kind of related but when Darling Husband and I did our weddding registry at Target, we went around with the little scanner gun and scanned everything we wanted. We didn’t go back and look at everything online afterwards or anything, just did it all in-store.
We about a week later, we’re talking to my Mother-In-Law and she’s like “Is there something that you guys want to tell me?”. Apparently, something got scanned wrong and we ended up with a pair of baby onesies on our wedding registry! MIL had found them and laughed (she assumed it was some sort of error but we were glad for the alert before someone else noticed them and really did think we were pregnant!).

Yeah, that is definitely annoying. Good thing it got nipped in the butt right away though. My friends had this problem at their wedding. The Bride couldn’t get over the fact that all of the Groom’s side seemed to think she was pregnant (and couldn’t figure out why they thought that). The Groom was just as angry that his family was saying stuff like that. Fiance was listening to the Groom on the phone and he said “shotgun wedding”. It seems he had been calling the wedding a “shotgun wedding” because they moved the date up from the original. We had to inform him that the term “shotgun wedding” means you’re getting married because she’s knocked up. He didn’t know that’s what it meant and had been referring to his wedding as a “shotgun wedding” to all his family. At least we finally figured out why his family all thought she was pregnant!
