I think I’ve posted this before, but it’s coming up quickly and I really need to vent so I can focus (day 5 of marathon-style novel writing)…
So… I think the proposal is coming sometime around Thanksgiving, but most likely before New Years. He started paying for the ring in August (I think.) I’m pretty certain he’s going to be asking my dad in a week and a day (my parents and my mom’s parents are visiting for my 25th birthday – they are bringing my hope chest. We live halfway across the country from them, so it’s basically the only time he can ask.) He’s selected his groomsmen, decided he wants to get married in my hometown, said he only wants input on the food, and picked the honeymoon (after a veto and suggestion from me – no cruise, but we’re going to Jamaica.) He’s commented on getting me to a beach (I’m so white I’m see-through.) He gets that crazy, self-satisfied “I’m up to something” look every time weddings or marriage or proposals are brought up (ESPECIALLY with proposals- then he blushes too.) He’s said he wants to get married before his 25th birthday (he’s 24.)
Since the wedding will be half-way across the country, I’ve been planning stuff to pare down the required timeline. My mom wasn’t keen on my chosen venue, she liked my most expensive option (but I decided against it due to logistics), and she seems VERY happy about my final choice – $900 dollars, no real time restriction for set up (8am to 11pm), in the middle of town, with the rehearsal dinner at my favorite venue (home!) Moreover, she’s now excited about my choice of decor (last night – “I LOVE your bouquets! Rainbow wedding! Butterflies…” “And books!” “Butterfliiiiiies!”) So mom (who is paying for the wedding) is excited. Which is great, especially since in a week and a day, we’ll be looking at wedding dresses! (It’ll probably be the only time someone can go with me.) I’ll select my dress then, probably with help from the lovely Hive. The board I sent her…
Then in another week, we’ll be heading out to meet his family. He’s said that the main reason he hasn’t proposed is because I haven’t met them, and he knows it is important to me…
Dang it, I want to marry this man! I want to know WHEN I get to marry this man! He’s driving me nuts, and I can’t stop thinking about it! I’m giddy and I have no real reason to be. EEEEEEE!

@cyneswith:What is the inspiration for the book center pieces?! I am an English teacher and I LOVE IT!!!

I’m a former librarian, currently a writer, and I want to either go back to librarianship OR teach English comp/writing (college level.) My guy and I are huge book nerds – we have four FULL bookcases in our apartment, and I have two more at my parents’ house. Going with an all-out book theme would be too much, but centerpieces work.

Oh hon I LOVE your inspiration board too. I used to be a florist in high school and I’ve done flowers for a few girlfriends weddings….and I’m always SO EXCITED when they choose jewel tone colors like you have. The flowers look gorgeous 🙂 So cheerful and rich.

Well… he didn’t ask my dad this weekend, so I’m pretty sure it ISN’T coming any time soon. My mom was less than enthused about dresses, though she did say (with a sigh) that if any fancy dress was me, it was the one I tried on. I tried asking her questions, like what sort of budget she wanted (since she intends to pay), and she would just sneer and say “Whatever.” I made a comment that if he proposes before New Years, we’ll get married in May 2011; if later, it’d be May 2012. “Why set that kind of limit? Oh, sorry… How long do you need between a proposal and a wedding?” And when she told me my guy didn’t ask my dad, she basically said it was pointless if we were already living together. Thanks Mom, for telling me I’m gonna burn in hell while you tell me he’s not going to ask me to marry him anytime in the near future. Also, despite now being able to pull up my favorite pants without unbuttoning them, I apparently went up two dress sizes. It’s days like this that I just want to curl up and die somewhere.
