Hey Bees! I have a venue dilemma. To save money we decided to have our cere, only and reception in the same location. The venue we chose is a 3 story industrial loft. The ceremony will take place on the top floor and cocktail hour and reception will be on the lower floors.
My dilemma is, there is only one way to get up to the top floor and that is straight through the 1st floor so that means through the reception set-up and our guest will loose the element of surprise upon entering.
Should I drape off a walkway so that the guest don’t see the set-up? Or what else should I do? Or should I not even worry about the issue?

The element of surprise is the most fun! 🙂 Though if my guests don’t stay on the sidewalk to the ceremony they’ll probably see our reception area too. So honestly it isn’t that big of a deal. Thought if it isn’t too much trouble or issue, I say drape it off.

If you are really worried about it I would say drape it off. I like when I go from a wedding ceremony to the reception site and get that “wow” factor. How difficult would it be to drape it off? What about renting or buying privacy partitions to make a little wall?
ETA: Something like this? These ones come in a few different colors.

I really like Florette Liz’s idea a lot. I am super excited to see photos, your venue sounds amazing!

After talking to the venue manager, I decided not to cover the reception area. He told me that its pretty much just a waste of money. Instead, we are going to have the cocktail hour (well more like 30 min) prior to the ceremony. That way we can use the same space.
