I just purchased an 8mm square antique cushion from JYB and was surprised how modern the light return was. In fact I had to have the culet enlarged so I could see the faceting more. We’re so used to seeing macro photos of everything but in real life things look so different. Supernova does make an elongated modern cushion which you could compare to Zaya. Here’s picture I found of theirs and also one with an antique stone which I love!

Beautiful inspiration set, By The Way. Good luck finding your perfect stone!

michellelynn9175 :  Here’s a picture of what it looked like before the culet was enlarged. It was very sparkly from edge to edge even in relatively low light. I could only make out the pattern if I photographed it. You might be interested to read the thread “Old cut lovers I need advice”. There are lots of pictures there before and after the culet was made bigger.

More eye candy of the old cut variety.

michellelynn9175 :  Ha Ha…glad somebody got my weird sense of humor! As far as most “diamond like”, I do think it looks just like my diamond most of the time, but I have had to come to terms with the fact that it is not a $20,00 diamond! undecidedIt also doesn’t look like one frequently.

It’s only been a week and I’ve had people say Wow, look at that ring! (A waitress) and “Is that a real diamond, it’s way sparklier than my diamond?” (A good friend-I had to bite my tongue because she has a very small, very poorly cut diamond). Honestly, it’s a beautiful stone. It does throw more color than a diamond. It just does because that’s the nature of moissanite. That said, I do think it throws a lot less than a round does. If that’s going to bother you might consider a Wink CZ or a Chris CZ from England. Many professionals say CZ is the closest simulant to a diamond.

Even though I’d love for people to think it’s a diamond, I don’t care if they know it’s moissanite or if they think it’s made out of salt! Beautiful is beautiful. In your case you’re going to have a lot of diamonds in the halo and band that will be part of the overall appearance of the ring.

michellelynn9175 :  I think you about exhausted the branded moissy sellers.  As success goes in looking like a diamond, I think the antique cuts are generally more successful in the non-rounds and elongates. I don’t think a halo setting can be too modern…they’ve been around for a long time — but you have to love the look.

Have you considered just having Joseph Schubach make the ring you want and use their moissy? They have a really good bench and their custom work is great.

michellelynn9175 :  That’s good to know about Wink’s cz. I wondered why the inventory has been so low. Here’s a link to the company in England that supposedly make good quality cz comparable to Wink’s. It’s cheap enough that you could buy some just to see. I just ordered an OMC because I’m curious.

I’ve searched high and low for modern cut elongated cushion moissanite reviews but can’t find anything. There are several people here who are happy with their Harro gems though. I wonder if you could order one and send it back if you don’t like it. I’m not sure if they’re custom cut or stock items.

As you probably know, everyone’s cutting the same 4H SiC so I don’t think you have to worry about difference aside from finding a cut you like.

Finally, to answer your question, my stone is JYB’s colorless stock and it looks anywhere from an F to an H depending on the lighting and my surroundings.

Good luck in your search and please let us know what you decide to do!
