Sitori : I am so with you on feeling like you’re going crazy!!! I seriously cannot make up my mind on what I want, and I haven’t paid a down payment on anything because of that.
I’m almost certain I’ll be doing a Harro elongated cushion. Brilliant, not crushed ice. The Harro vendor I’m using said the crushed ice can white out in certain light and doesn’t look as much like a real diamond. No thanks! I also looked at Schubachs but ultimately preferred the look of the Harro when going back and forth between videos. I also didn’t like the fact that they wouldn’t sell me a loose stone and their plain solitaire band is an extra $800!!!! They could’ve done a custom setting but prices were comparable to everyone else and their no loose stone and outrageous mark up on a plain band put me off. Their response time was good though, which I appreciate.
I’ve heard Harro can be off in color too, which is why I’m having the jeweler order the stone so they can deal with it if it’s wrong. I’ve been talking to Michael at Raven Fine Jewelers, and he is simply phenomenal. Very down to earth and honest. Their custom policies are fantastic and I already trust the guy…and I haven’t even given them any money yet! I’ll be doing a split shank halo with diamonds on the u-prong underneath. His pricing was very reasonable, especially for the quality of work he does. Check out his Instagram page! I had a quote from David Klass and Steven Kirsch. Both, after a couple emails just stopped responding. I felt lost in the shuffle and that was unpleasant because I didnt want to keep emailing and be a pest so I just left it alone. Same thing happened to another moissanite vendor who isnt mainstream yet, and Lauren B. Ultimately Michael at Raven was the best at communication and that is my #1 priority under quality and I know he will produce a beautiful piece.
I looked at Zen but I can’t find enough about them and their pricing for a loose stone would actually end up costing me more when combined with a custom setting from Raven. I think jewelers give a better price when they source the stone so I’m having him do it all.
I contacted Jen at JHollywood, and her and the girls there were fantastic but a lot of their pieces aren’t my style and I just felt like Raven could nail it the first time. All of the rings on their page are more “me” if that makes any sense at all. The ZAYA is absolutely stunning and if I was doing a round stone I’d absolutely use them and get a NEO diamond cut! But rounds don’t look right on me, and that takes me back to the Harro.
I was DEAD SET on an antique cut square cushion (I had contacted JYB and Julia B on Etsy) then I found the elongated cushion and was in love with The True Gem – check them out!!! Awesome stuff. Seriously. But after deciding on a halo and comparing antique vs. brilliant I just gravitated more toward the brilliant. I can’t even explain why. And The True Gem doesn’t offer brilliant, only crushed ice or “modern” as they call it. Their Juliette and Leighton are actually the inspiration for my dream ring. For one, I want the ring to have a low profile and antique cut stones are deeper, requiring them to sit higher. Especially a 10×8 which is the size I decided on. Also, a halo looks modern to me so somehow with an antique cut stone it seems….off. I’m weird, I know. I can admit it. 🙂 If everyone was the same the world would be a very boring place! Haha!
So I’ve been trying to lose weight and my husband and I made a deal that when I got to my goal, I get my ring. This was my idea, not his so don’t think he’s some jerk calling me fat! Lol. I just know this will motivate me like nothing else.
So it might take a while but I’ll eventually have pics to show everyone of the CAD before it’s produced! He takes progression pics to show you every step so you can get excited! I seriously have zero negatives to say about this jeweler so far, and I cannot wait to get started.
I’ve done my fair share of research as you can see, so if you have any specific questions, fire away! 🙂
Oh, and sorry for the novel. I tend to get a little carried away when it comes to this subject. Haha!
