- Wedding: September 2009
I’ve been planning our wedding for 3 months and while some parts are fun, I’ve been stressing A LOT about how we are going to pay for it from just me and my fiance’s funds (or lack thereof), trying to decide on things I really like while keeping costs down, inviting his HUGE family, both of us are nervous to recite vows in front of everyone, I’ve already ordered a few things online for the wedding which has been disastrous/wrong/broken, etc. Plus I work and go to school full time so who has time to plan a wedding!
Well we’ve been talking the last few days and we’d really like to just elope! We’ve both gotten really excited about the idea and to not leave our family and friends out, we’d like to have a reception/party when we get back.
So I have a lot of questions, some being…
1) Is this appropriate? Our parents are both for the idea and will probably be present during our out-of-state quickie ceremony. We’ll invite everyone else to our reception later. Is it tacky or selfish to do it this way?
2) We’d like to have a potluck wedding, is this asking for too much from our guests for just a reception?
3) Gifts–we don’t need or want any really but knowing some of our family and friends, they will insist on getting us something. How do we politely address this? Can we just say we’re having a potluck reception so to bring food in lieu of gifts?
4) Any other suggestions or advice. I looked around this site and couldn’t find much about exactly what we wanted to do. Maybe I was looking in the wrong places.
Thank you in advance!
