So the plan in short is to elope in our state Michigan with no guests. The twist is I am hiring a professional photographer, I am getting all dolled up, bouquet, make-up, etc (he will be in a suit.) More than anything I just want really great pictures of us, especially since no one is invited and they will likely be sent out to friends/family/facebook 😛
So here’s the question; what kind of dress to get? I know what style I want, but I don’t want to overdue it and look ridiculous. The location will either be a B&B or http://www.dowgardens.org/#!weddings, which are both fairly casual. We will probably be there for 1-2 hours just for quickie vows and pictures.
I have looked at 1,000 dresses, but still don’t know how “dressy” to be. What is too much?
Here are some options for style I have been looking at; too dressy? I am open to other ideas, but here is what I feel I really like; some lace, not stapless, fitted mermaid style avaliable in ivory and don’t mind a little bling.

get any dress you love!.. I considered eloping and went dress shopping keeping in mind not to get a dress with buttons or corset back cause my Fiance would NOT be able to help me with it.. you know guys are just clueless! lols.. unless you have someone else (perhaps the MUA) help you out?..
I considered a Nicole Miller dress
Here is a bride featured on SMP who elope in Italy
It really comes down to your style 🙂
ETA: just re read your post..-_- should have finished reading before posting lols… i guess the above suggestion wont work for you..:D

That last dress is lovely! Thanks for the responses- you are right I should wear whatever I feel comfortable in.
Good point, the other dress I love is a corset and my short arms are not going to reach and do it up, he won’t know how to do more than a tight shoelace tie and the photographer may not want to be my stand-in Maid/Matron of Honor.
The real problem now is narrowing my choices down- so many pretty dresses. How the hell do you choose a dress now and expect not to change your mind before the big day?

I don’t think the dress is ‘too dressy’. Besides, it’s up to you. You won’t look silly. 🙂
This is the dress I’ll be wearing to my City Hall wedding:
Aisle Be There from Modcloth

@practicallyme: Wow, that is so beautiful. I keep debating on getting a shorter more caual dress. I love modcloth. I also considered renting a dress from runttherunway, which has a ton of beautiful designer dresses for 3-day $50+ rental. (Not an ad, just reallt like their stuff.)
Really like this one http://www.erinfetherston.com/shop/wedding/for-the-bride/brocade-fit-and-flare.html

@aliciapdx: wow. that dress is amazing and that would be lovely for a B&B or garden. I say go with that style! VERY CLASSY. I also don’t think there is a “too much” it’s your wedding day, guests or not, and you should feel and look the best you have EVER. Whatever you like, go for it. You only get married once! *cross fingers*

I think your gown choice looks magnificent! I’m also eloping and wearing a “real” wedding gown (Vera Wang’s Gemma) and we’re going the whole nine for the photographer, bouquet, tux, etc as well. Bottom line, this is your day! All that matters is how you and he feel! 🙂 I’m sure you’ll look stunning in the photos and won’t think it was too dressy at all!

I decided to go w/ #1 on here http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/help-me-choose-a-dress-9 and rent the dress I posted above for the pictures at the Aviation Museum (the FH is an Airforce Vet)

Your dress choice is beautiful. Just because it is an elopement doesn’t mean you can’t wear a traditional wedding gown! I am eloping as well (well people know we are doing it so I call it a destination wedding for 2). I am wearing a traditional long gown. Ours will be on an island on the beach, so just made sure to get something a little more light weight. I also don’t plan to do a veil, but maybe just some flowers in my hair. This is your day to be a bride – when else are you going to get to wear a long white dress 🙂 Congrats and best of luck!

@practicallyme: I love this dress! I’m considering going short too. Or at least a shorter dress for the reception. Something like this :
I’m obsessed with lace though so a long lace dress is possible as well.
PS @aliciapdx #1 is beautiful!

I love the dress you have picked out! I was going to go with a lace dress for my elopement, but decided to go more simple. Here is my dress.

@jenart: Ooh I love that dress! I’ve stalked all the picture reviews on David’s Bridal.

@AlwaysSunny: So have I! LOL This was one of my first picks, then I was all wishy-washy, but kept coming back to this one. It’s being phased out and only available online and the sizes are getting limited, so I ordered it on Friday and can’t wait until it comes! 🙂
