Hi! My fiancé and I are having our big wedding in May 2016, but we are planning on eloping beforehand on Valentine’s Day 2015. We are hoping to do our small ‘elopement’ ceremony in the Philadelphia area, but don’t really know of any venues. What we do know is we do not want a church ceremony or city hall! We are looking for something quaint and possibly somewhere old/historical in the city or outside the city as well is fine. Any suggestions would be so appreciated!

You should look up Self-uniting Marriage. In PA, you can get a Self-Uniting Marriage License and all you need are 2 witnesses. No officiant needed (or even allowed!). You could just drive out to the middle of nowhere with 2 buddies in the backseat, get out and get married in a field. Or in the car.
Similar law in CO, which is where we are eloping – but no witnesses needed there.
Best of luck, and congrats!

Yes! We had two friends do this, and the bride’s sister “officiated.” It was beautiful. Anyway, that wasn’t an elopement, but definitely agree that self-uniting licenses are cool. I believe it’s a leftover from the state’s Quaker roots.
