How about a trip up to Mackinac Island? Or looking to see if any winery’s up in the Leelanau Peninsula (my absolutely FAVORITE Michigan spot) would be able to work something out for you guys? I don’t know any specifics but I’m sure any place in MI “known” for weddings would have everything you need nearby, and if you can take a mini-cation somewhere beautiful while you’re at it – then even better! 🙂

Mackinac island will be colder than traverse for sure. What about sagautuck or caseville. Opposite parts of the state but both are close, cute and quaint. By Mid or late may, it should be really nice. Early May is sometimes touch and go. Seems like you guys are getting pounded this year so I don’t know… I’m not there though.

Another thing you should look at if you’re still considering Michigan is renting a cabin. Pretty much any of these mackinaw including makinac will have private direct rental options from families. Heck, even the lakes around Ann Arbor (Irish hills, Brighton, etc) have that possibility. It’s usually cheaper than a B and B, more private, and you can cook yourself am!

(sorry, saw this thread on your profile and had to comment because I grew up there!)

@aliciapdx:  I’ve only been there once a long time ago, but I also LOVED Toronto! It’s super fun. I was also there when the exchange rate was really good, although since I haven’t crossed the border on a visit home in years, I have no idea what it’s sitting at too. Overall though, I think Toronto is really affordable compared to say, New York or DC.

How long have you been living in Ann Arbor for? I went to school there and really liked the town, although I liked it a lot more in the summer when the students were gone. It’s one of very few places I’d agree to live if we moved back to Michigan. haha.

@aliciapdx:  Haha. Girl, I grew up there and I am NOT one for the snow either! Don’t let those freaks fool you – they can suck it up but don’t like it either. At this point though, I’ve been gone for five years. And this January when I went home was the first time I’ve even visited in the winter in like 3 years. Of course it was 3 degrees when I showed up. Like, are you kidding me!? Truth be told though, I think it feels colder in Kabul because we don’t really have heat. Still, Michigan winters are no joke man!
