jellybeanjean :  Congrats! Option 2 makes the most sense to me.

Generally the wording would say something to the effect of: “We eloped! Please join us for a reception celebrating…”

jellybeanjean :  Congratulations we did something very similar. Our timing was end of November intimate wedding (10 people), sent invites 2 weeks after to end of January casual reception.

Our wording (we had a wedding picture on the front as well as our last name & date):

Just Maui’d

Please Join XXX & XXX for a casual dessert reception.

Where: xxxx

When: xxxx

Regrets only: xxxxx

jellybeanjean :  You said elope in the beginning of August. If I were you, I would elope Aug. 1 (This is just an example). Already have my announcements printed, assembled and addressed so they can be mailed on the same or very next day – let’s say Aug. 2. Then, have your reception anywhere from mid to late September – let’s say Sep. 15.

You’ve given ample notice for the reception and the invites would be sent post wedding. Problem solved!

bluecutie00 :  I like this. I would not do option 2 as is. I think its poor form to tell them youre doing osmething (eloping) and theyre not invited.
