If it was me I would do the whole thing before I left. Meaning just one wedding, with those I wanted there before we moved. If I had to I would cut the guest list super short. But I would try to get it done. My husband & I only had 20 some guests but I still wore my dream dress & had my dream wedding!

I live in Germany and as a non-EU citizen, you would only get a 3 month visa (if not married) and then have to leave for 3 months.  This covers all the European countries.  I’m not sure how long the visa process takes since Darling Husband works for the military and the process was a lot faster for us.

I had a friend that met his FW in S. Africa but he was American and took a job back in the states.  They “eloped” last year in the U.S. b/c her visa was super short but it’s my understanding that they are having their “real wedding” in S. Africa next year since her family couldn’t attend.

I’m not sure what you SHOULD do…whatever seems like the best option for you.

But to answer your other question I know many people who have eloped and then had a wedding sometime after.

I would do the civil/legal part now for the visa paperwork and then do the religious ceremony and reception before you go. (Not too close to your departure date, because moving continents is at least as exhausting as planning weddings. 🙂
