Oooh good luck!

We told our friends and family…private courthouse wedding on the 17th and then heading off to Mexico.

I don’t have any advice on the to tell or not to tell, but I can say that announcements are a great idea AND you can have a reception a few months later… no worries!

Having a reception is perfectly normal after an elopement.  That’s what a lot of people do.  I wouldn’t ask for gifts unless people offer because, at least from what I’ve learned, it’s rude to have a party and ask for gifts when you don’t invite the people to the wedding.  I was just going to have people come to a party when I was eloping and tell them to please not bring gifts so people didn’t see it as a gift grab.  I pretty much accepted that eloping cancels out all showers, presents, etc.  I didn’t mind.

I would call your friends before sending out the announcement.

Congrats on getting married in Prague!  It’s an awesome place.  I was looking into eloping in Paris but the residency time was too long.  I should have looked at Prague.  It’s 37 days shorter than Paris.

We are eloping also (in two weeks, EEK!) even though we are not officially engaged yet (long story)

We do plan to have a large reception this summer but will not be asking for gifts becuase I personally think it is a little rude. If someone really wants to give a gift I won’t turn it down, but there will be no registeries or anything like that, it will just be a great big low key picnic / party for all our friends and family.

You could always do a re-newal of the vows in a year and celebrate it then with a mini ceremony and everything.
