@hmack: You might want to also post this topic on the LOCAL Section here on WBee (look for the Tab at the top of Topics)… and then within the LOCAL Section, look for CANADA and lastly WESTERN CANADA

That Board is where you’ll probably have the most luck hooking up with other Western Canada Bees who can advise you on these Destinations (vs here on the very general ELOPEMENT BOARD where there are a ton more topics, and yours will sink down the list quite quickly so not as likely to be seen by those who might have the kind of answers you are looking for)

Other great places for info… include the Provincial Tourism Websites (BC & Alberta) as well as the ones for those specific Destinations (Nelson & Banff)

And you can also just do a Destination specific GOOGLE ie – Banff Weddings – and probably get lots of hits as well.

And lastly, as a Canadian Bride-2-B you should check out WeddingBells.ca which is a great source for us Canadian Brides… they have DISCUSSION BOARDS too where you can chat with others… chances are much higher there on that ALL CANADA Website that you’ll find out great stuff from Local Brides (or MOBs) when it comes to Vendors, Officiants etc

Hope this helps,

Blaylock Mansion is a beautiful mansion in Nelson, BC. The first thing I thought of when I first saw the place was “What a beautiful place to get married”

@hmack:  I’d suggest staying at the Banff Springs Hotel or Chateau Lake Louise (a bit further)… they’re gorgeous. They also offer wedding packages. I actually asked a couple weeks ago about elopement options and LL was the least expensive and make the most sense since it would be just the 2 of us.

We’ll probably go with these guys if not Chateau LL – they’re super nice:

Pricing – this is what they emailed me last week: “Our fee for Banff is $220.00 and Lake Louise is $380.00, Witness charge $60.00 each.”

You don’t have to go with a package, but packages could include the room, cake, flowers, dinner, etc and someone to put it all together (far cheaper than going with one of the wedding planner companies up there).

But if you just need an officiant and witnesses, then you’re looking at very basic marriage commissioner (and possibly witnesses) fees, but may be limited to public spaces unless you happen to be staying at the said hotel.  Best to ask the space!
