There are so many details I would like to share with you ladies about the way my fiance proposed to me, but I’m going to to try keep it short so that people actually read it.
I knew he was going to propose on our trip to the Virgin Islands during the week of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is his favorite holiday, so the fact that he wanted to take me somewhere instead of having Thanksgiving with his family was the first flag for me. I almost didn’t let him, but he said, “Some things are more important than Thanksgiving…and there will be more Thanksgivings.”
So, I knew going into this trip that it was going to happen. I didn’t know the details or the day. When he told me on the first day that we were going on a sunset sail off of St. Thomas, I was suspicious. When we got there, the Captain told us that a family of 8 had canceled, so it would just be us. Knowing that he would never propose in front of a group of people, I thought, “Oh, well I guess it’s not time yet!” As I’m sure almost everyone reading this realizes, he had the Captain and first mate give me that story so I wouldn’t suspect anything. I feel like such an idiot for not knowing!
A couple years ago, I started making ridiculous joke “demands” on him in regards to the proposal. The two main ones were that: 1) Elton John be there, and 2) A hawk be involved somehow. When the boat was stopped right in front of the beautiful sunset, the first mate, Nikki, asked us to go to the front of the boat so that she could use my then boyfriend’s camera to take a picture of us. She took a video instead as he proposed.
He gave me a frame with a picture of us and several pages ripped out of themed calendars, all for November 19th “so that you won’t ever forget this day.” He also took out a picture of Elton John and a stuffed hawk. As Elton watched from his frame, my then boyfriend gave me his proposal speech. It was very long, and I loved every second of it. I have watched it on video over and over.
Hands shaking, he took out a Mario question mark block ring box (he bought the box from Etsy and modified it to turn it into a real ring box) and gave me my beautiful moissanite engagement ring, which you can see here:
The ring box looks like this:
Here he is proposing…sorry about the black boxes, but one of us has privacy issues. 😉
After I said, “Of course I will!” I then proposed to him. He was not expecting this. I gave him his ring, and we went down into the boat where I showed him an animated video I made of our story as a couple. He LOVES that video.
It was, by far, the most romantic day of my life. I’m not the kind of girl who needs a grand romantic gesture to say that I will spend the rest of my life with the man I love, but I am the kind of girl who can appreciate it.
