- Wedding: June 2013
So I was proposed to on a cruise on June 21, somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico. On that day, we went to see the Mayan ruins for the Goddess Ixchel, who is the goddess of fertility, medicine, and the moon. That night at dinner, he left to “go to the bathroom” which I didn’t think was suspicious at all. After dinner, I was exhausted and was so ready to go to bed I didn’t even realize he had put the ring box on the towel animal the ship stewards made for us! So I’m getting ready to crawl into bed and he says “oh look at the towel animal they made us!” and there is the ring box sitting on it! Had he not mentioned it, I wouldn’t have noticed AT ALL because it was at the foot of the bed on the side near the wall (his side). Whoops! So I crawl over to it and open the box and there is a plastic ring inside that I’d gotten for free on the ship, and had been playing with. I just knew he was going to have that ring in there. So I turn around and he gets on one knee and starts talking about how we met again after all those years, and how lucky he is to be with me. And some other nice things. As talkative as I am, I said a few things to him then, too. Then he got quiet and pulled the ring out and was quiet for a while… so I reminded him that he hasn’t asked me anything yet hahaha. So then he proposed!
It wasn’t at all how he had wanted it to be. He later told me he wanted to propose a few nights before for the ship’s formal night, since we were dressed up, but he felt too sick. And that as we were in various locations in Mexico he thought, “I should’ve proposed here” but he hadn’t taken the ring off the ship for fear he’d lose it in Mexico. Although he had other ideas in mind, I’m happy it turned out the way it did. Most adorable thing ever! And I can’t get over how I almost missed it hahaha.
