@joeysgal: Thanks! The history… Well, we went shopping for rings together. Jim is a bit intimidated by shopping for jewelry for me because I used to work for a jewelry store. So, needless to say, he did not pick it out on his own. I knew exactly what I wanted…Three stone emeral cut with baguettes…
The first place we went was Zales, because I knew they had the style I wanted. The ring they had, though, was 3 carats and over $10,000. Jim looked like a deer in the headlights! haha!
So we shopped around. Emerald cut diamonds are hard to find! And, my hands are small. Not anywhere near as small as yours, but I do wear a size 6.
Anyway, we found the 1 carat version of what I wanted, which is what we got. Except, we switched out the center stone for a 1/2 carat stone, making the total weight 1 1/4 carats… just for the engagement ring. So in that respect, it is somewhat custom, because you cannot just buy the way we have it.
The band was harder to find. I wanted all baguettes, because I like the clean lines and look of it. We got a single straight channel set baguette ring 1/3 carat, and I hated it. The diamonds didn’t line up on the sides.
So we went back to the store when they were having a bridal show, and found the band (it’s a wrap) just by chance. The manager had just had us sit down and was about to pull out catalogues to order what I wanted, when I looked down in the case and there it was! I pointed at it and said, “what about that one!” and it was perfect!
It isn’t custom, but the band and the ring go together so perfectly that I can’t imagine being able to custom make anything any better.
I love my rings!!! And I love telling the story behind them too!
