@cyndistar3:v Why did she say she would do it for free and then say she wants to give you a quote?

@cyndistar3:Is this photographer a friend, or family? Just curious as to why she agreed to take your pictures for free. Not sure why she would change her tune all of a sudden…

Are you sure she’s going to quote you a lot or even quote you with a price? I’d wait to see the quote. In pro bono work, a lot of quotes say $0 for tax purposes. Or maybe she’ll give you an unbelievable price. I’m also curious why she initially said free…

Maybe she just wants to see if you’re going to ask for anything beyond what she thought she’d offer you for free.  Even if it was a pro bono job, I’d want a contract as a professional.  It would suck if some bride I did a wedding for for free went around bad mouthing me because she didn’t get what she expected.  Not that I’m saying you would do that, but it’s CYA.

@cyndistar3: Meet her first and find out. Maybe the quote is for the prints if you want them? Or for travelling to your wedding etc. Hopefully she will still do it for free and the quote will be something minimal.

@cyndistar3: You guys should definitely do a contract even if its for free so both of you are protected.

meet with her and find out exactly what she’s thinking. there’s no use worrying about it when you’re not even sure she’s decided to charge you.

It’s rather odd that someone you don’t know personally would just offer to do your photography for free.  My guess is she offered to shoot the wedding for free as a favor to your bridesmaid but will have to charge you for prints, since she would have to pay for those herself and they can get quite expensive.

@cyndistar3: i didnt sign a contract with my photog – probably a bad idea but she is a good friend of mine – not professional either but does it as a hobby and i loved how our engagement pics turned out. are you willing to pay anything? even though she is a friend i wouldnt have allowed her to do it for free – i am paying her $500 for engagement, bridals and wedding which i thought was more than reasonable –  i didnt want to pay the 1200+ i was quoted from other photogs.

I would meet with her anyway and see what she has to say – maybe she will still give you a good deal or maybe you can work something out like pay for her time but get free prints? i wouldnt get too worked up until you meet with her though
