So I got married in June. Haven’t legally changed my name yet due to some holdups. My birthday was in Septemeber and I got some checks, unfortunately signed to my new (not legal) name. Is there any way to endorse these checks to my bank account without changing my name first?

D you have your marriage license? If you do, take it to the bank with you and they should still let you deposit them.

@drakela2: Agreed. I was able to change my name at my bank with the marriage license before my name was legally changed (e.g. SS and driver’s license).

I never changed my name. The bank still let me cash checks that were made out to MyFirst HisLast by showing my marriage license and explaining that the sender got it wrong. I think I had to sign with both my real name and the name on the check.

I was able to just take the check to the teller and explain and I endorse in both new not yet legal name and maiden name. It’s no biggie.
