Long time lurker, here – but rarely have I commented, and NEVER have I posted…until now! I am engaged…and floating on air!
Fiance and I have been together for 2 years, and have spoken of the future, but never made any concrete plans. You see, I have a fear of commitment. My parents have been happily, disgustingly (haha), in love for 32 years – and with the way marriages fail these days, I figured there was no way I would be able to find that…and then I met Fiance.
Fast forward through 2 puppies and a house, to last week.
Last week we were on vacation with my family. He was being weird, not letting me get the toothpaste out of his bag, or help him find his phone charger, but I didn’t really think too much on it. We had 2 great days at the beach, and then, on day three, he decided he wanted to go to the lighthouse.
We drive to the lighthouse, climbed the 218 stairs, and stood at the top, taking pictures, enjoying the view, and the breeze. We were up there for about 15 minutes when he brought up a previous conversation where I told him my father would not go in on a boat with him because he was just my boyfriend…so he asked if he changed that, would it be different? I must have looked like an idiot, because I was not getting it. So then he got down on one knee, took the box out of his pocket, and asked me to marry him! I started crying, nodded yes, and he handed me the ring. It fit perfectly (which is quite a surprise – he guessed my size, as I have no clue what my ring size is). Since I didn’t actually SAY yes, the first words out of my mouth were “did you ask my father??” – he had. And then I joking asked if it was just so he could get a boat – we laughed, and he said no. And then it took about 25 minutes to get down to the bottom. I was shaking so much, and had to stop and tell every stranger that walked by that I just got engaged.
