I never really considered myself a “waiting” bee because I thought putting that label to it would make things more difficult for me, but we started talking about getting engaged around Christmas time. I tried not to think about it too much because my Fiance () is a scientist and quite analytical – I knew it was going to take him a lot of research to decide on The ring and take the jump, but we had talked about getting engaged by the time we renewed our lease because a year of “living in sin” (ha ha) was long enough to make a decision about taking the next step. Our lease is up in the middle of July and we have actually decided to not resign and move out, but that’s another story because last Wednesday…he proposed!! He did a good job of catching me off guard because we had talked about taking a trip to the Outer Banks, which is where we took our first vacation together, in a couple of weeks and I let myself think he might do it there.
Instead, we went for a run on one of our favorite trails (nothing out of the ordinary) that goes around a fancy golf course in the area. It had rained earlier so he thought that we would have the trail all to ourselves, but right as we pulled in to the parking lot I said, “did you know it’s national running day?” He said his stomach dropped and sure enough, the parking lot was totally slammed! The trail was really busy but when we got to the most challenging hill (that we usually walk halfway up) we were alone and for once we ran up the whole hill. I turned around to give him a high five and thought he was falling over! As soon as I asked him, “what’s wrong with you?!” I realized that he was getting on one knee! Right as he started talking another runner came around the corner and all three of us were pretty flustered (he and I are shy-ish people anyway), but he said some sweet words and I of course said yes!! The hill overlooked the greens and a small pond on the golf course so we sat on the edge of it for a few minutes before finishing our run. It was perfect and I’m so glad he did it somewhere that we go often and can always go visit!
Anyway, without further ado, here are a few pictures of my ring and us celebrating…
We went out to dinner at one of our favorite local restaurants afterward.
And we went to the beach to celebrate this weekend!
I haven’t quite mastered the art of photographing the ring (my Fiance is the photographer and he’s waiting for the “perfect” picture before uploading any), but I’m sure I’ll show it off around the hive once I’ve gotten better at it!
