Last Friday, my then-SO got a call on his phone as he was driving. He didn’t recognize the number so I answered it for him. It was the Fed Ex guy so he asked for the phone back to talk to him. I thought what did buy NOW!? Our friend who was in the car with us asked “What’d you get from Fed Ex” and SO answered “It’s a part for my car.” I was a little suspicious because he usually tells me what he’s getting for his car and when so this call was unexpected.
In the midst of this, we were planning somewhat of a double date to go see one of my favorite musicals in a town about an hour away from us with another dating couple we know. One of them had to work so they backed out and SO booked two show tickets. I got online and started looking up fun restaurants in the area. He expressed to me that HE wanted to pick it out so I stopped. I just thought ohhhh cute, this will be a fun date for us.
Later on in the week, I started piecing the info together…what was that Fed Ex delivery? Why is he insisting on finding the restaurant….he doesn’t usually surprise me! I texted my friend to say “OMG what if it’s this weekend!?” She responded saying “It’s a car part, relax.”
As we were leaving yesterday, we got outside and SO said he forgot his spare shoes (he wears driving shoes on longer distances) so he went back into the apartment. At this point, I’ve decided I need to convince myself it isn’t going to happen tonight and I just need to enjoy my evening otherwise when he doesn’t propose, I won’t be dissappointed on the drive home.
So we get down to the restaurant, he grabs his other pair of shoes and says he’s setting aside his spare pair of sock. Oookay….
We had a nice dinner and a great restaurant and he seemed incredibly calm all throughout dinner. Halfway through the entree I’m thinking “He wouldn’t be this calm if he was going to propose tonight.” So I enjoyed my meal. Then he said “maybe before the show we can walk around a bit.”
Well that didn’t happen because we were late getting to the theatre because it took us a while to get our check. He dropped me at the door to get our tickets and then he rushed in so we could get our seats.
After the show (which was amazing and wonderful) we went outside and he suggested we take a little walk to wait for all the outgoing traffic to clear. Okay. We stroll a bit. We stoppoed on the patio and he starts telling me how much he loves me, how happy he is to have me in his life and that he wants to keep me. He kept saying “and…” so finally I said “Annnd what?” He said “I’m gonna ask you to marry me! I won’t make you wait anymore!”
He got down on one knee while pulling the ring out of his pocket and said “Will you marry me?”
I yelled “Oh my God!!!” and then “Yes!” We hugged and I just kept saying “Oh my God” and I was in such disbelief for the longest time! Then the ride home was full of phone calls waking people up because it was really late.
Later he told me the ring box was in his sock. It all made sense!
We’re so happy
