I have been engaged for just over a month and I am already about to jump out the window from wedding planning (unless my Fiance does first). We are both stressed and frustrated with tpro process of finding a venue and date, setting a budget and dealing with family.
We are looking to get married in Chicago in August/September 2013 so about 10 months from now to plan.
Anyone have thoughts on how to deal with the stress and picking vendors? We don’t want to just “throw something together” for the sake of having a wedding but want it to be nice and memorable in terms of our guests, venue and vendors.
Also any thoughts on whether 10 months is enough time to plan?
Our wedding planner obviously doesn’t think so but just felt compelled to ask.

I’ve always heard the average was a year, so that means plenty of people have done it in less time!

We felt that way too at first so I stopped planning allotgether for two weeks. It’s given me time to refocus and be inspired and for us to talk. I will only discuss wedding planning with my fi now BUT my family isn’t contributing either.

Hey my wedding is the same date!! I’ve been having a blast planning, I’m so sorry you’re not! You still have time, but you need to book a venue ASAP. Just start with that, one thing at a time. Look on the boards for Chicago, look on The Knot, google “chicago wedding venues,” etc. In the meantime, get a guest list going so you have a ballpark figure of how many guests you’re going to have which will affect the price of the venue and basically everything. Once you get that done, start looking for a photographer, then an officiant and a florist, and go from there. There are good timelines on wedding wire or the Knot that can help you too. You’re fine, just start actually booking things rather than stressing out! It should be fun!!

My wedding is just a little over 8 months away (it was 6 months away, but we had to push the day back, for family reasons) and honestly, I did most of my planning with less than 10 months, and I still have a lot to do. What I’d focus on first is finding a venue, vendors can come a bit later. Even now, some vendors still haven’t booked my wedding day for things (a few months back when I had to change it up I was happy most were still free).
Don’t stress. Weddings are perfectly plannable in less than 10 months!

We had everything planned in a week and a half. I guess I’m really lucky.
