@SnowInApril:  there is no queue for engaged couples.  it’s not like “take a number” and “now serving # xxx”.

out of respect i would probably avoid the same month but i think you need to set a date that is good for you.  perhaps you can let the other couple know that you have a certain time frame that you are looking at and the reasoning for it (being a teacher/time off).

While I agree with PP’s that it sounds like she’s being unreasonable, I would get married after them, anyway. Maybe a 2-3 month gap, and here’s why: you’re going to be related to her soon, in addition to being her friend. I would give up 2 months of being married to make sure I kept that relationship well maintained, even if the request is eye-roll inducing.

Our wedding is still a whopping 802 days away (and we’ve been engaged for 6 months today!), and while both FI’s brother and sister are in relationships, they’re still fairly new and I don’t think there’s any chance of either of them getting engaged and married before our wedding finally rolls around.  However, fairly close friends of ours recently got engaged, and they’re certainly going to get married before us.  Do we care?  Nope.  Heck, there’s one or two other couples who might do the same thing within the next 2 years.  We’ve already set our date so I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that there aren’t any conflicts.
