Yay! We’ve been together since we were 16 (2006). We’ll be married in July 2015. If you can’t tell what it is, it’s a golden snitch from the Harry Potter franchise of which I am a HUGE nerd. The stone is a topaz.
I totally expected it. Not just because of how long we were together, but because he asked me to check his bank statements for something and I found the charge there and quickly conneceted the dots. He must have forgotten it would be there. He surprised me with it, though, just before we were about to go out for dinner. He got me alone and opened his Nintendo 3DS where he had Pokemon up and a trade ready to go. It was a “shiny” Ponyta that he had got without cheats (it takes a LOT of time and effort to get one) and named it “I Choose You!” 😀
And then he brought out the ring. He was so nervous and stumbling over his words as if he was actually asking me out for the first time. I pretended to think about it and said “Hmm. I don’t know. It’s just so sudden.” (we’ve been dating 8 years), but then I laughed, hugged him tight, and said “of course!” When I told my parents and grandparents, they said they already knew. He had actually gone by their houses before hand to show them the ring and “ask for my hand.” He already knew them very well, but the gesture was just so sweet. 🙂
It’s a little awkward and nerdy. But hey, that’s who we are.

The first thing I thought: That’s a golden snitch!!!
Absolutely love!!! I’m the Harry Potter nerd in this relationship, he really knows nothing about it (we just finished watching The Prisoner of Azkaban together, his first time ever). That is freaking awesome!
Congratulations! And remember…

belleindigo: Aww, that’s adorable! Congratulations!
My Darling Husband proposed with a relatively inexpensive dragon ring, but it’s not practical to wear every day, so shortly after I got to pick out my forever ring, which has been called “elven” 🙂
And at the end of our vows, instead of saying “this is my solemn vow,” we said “this I solemnly swear.” And we also used a bit from Game of Thrones in our ceremony and the theme for our recessional, and named the tables at our reception after sci fi and fantasy locations. And our cake topper was a dragon and unicorn and my earrings were inspired by unicorn horns 🙂
