Our story: We met online when we were 13 years old in an AOL chat room. Everyone that I tell our story to now that we’re almost 30 gets scared and tells me I’m lucky that I didn’t get “catfished”. Fortunately, catfishing wasn’t really a thing when we were still using dial-up internet and those free AOL discs haha. We talked on the phone and “dated” long distance (as I am from Washington state and he is from Ohio) until we finally met at 18. He had joined the Navy and was stationed in Virginia, I flew there alone to meet him and spent 2 weeks together. Shortly after that he was deployed multiple times for long periods of time. We were able to see each other for 1 night when his ship came to WA, we always talked a lot and stayed best friends. After he got out of the military, we were both single at the same time and started talking more again, I went to visit him and decided to move to him. So, the 4th time ever meeting him was when I drove across the country with my Mom and brother with all of my belongings to move into our house. Fast forward 3 years to last Monday, while visiting my family in WA on a hike to the most breathtaking waterfall I have ever seen, he got down on his knee and asked me to be his wife. I couldn’t be more excited to have the first boy I fell in love with be the man that I get to spend the rest of my life with. Here’s to no more long distance, proving that patience is worth it and childhood sweethearts (even ones that start thousands of miles apart) can make it!
