- Wedding: March 2013
Yesterday morning, my wonderful boyfriend of 2 years proposed. He definitely caught me off guard – we were in cities about 2.5 hours away and he drove up and surprised me. It was really fun and felt like taking the next big step in our relationship.
We’ve actually already done pre-marital counseling, which I have to say, feels great! I moved the distance to be closer to him at the beginning of the year, and one of the conditions we agreed upon was to do “pre-engagement counseling.” You can read about my experience on my past posts. I’m glad we did it – it helped him come to a final decision, I think, and it feels good to know we’re starting off our engagement thinking about the marriage and not just the wedding.
Oh, but there is plenty of wedding thinking going on! Haha. I was on the site a couple of months ago but ended up stepping away because it was making my engagement obsession much worse while waiting.
I won’t give the trite advice of “Relax, it will happen when it happens! Enjoy this time!” That is so much easier said from the other side and I always sort of felt like it invalidated my feelings while waiting. I will say I was surprised that I didn’t want to IMMEDIATELY jump into wedding planning! I did, of course, spend a good amount of time thinking about it yesterday morning, but by last night, I was exhausted from all the calling people, excitement, repeating the story, answering questions, etc – and just want the weekend to relax a bit. So that is a bit different than I expected.
Here’s some camera-phone snapshots of the ring 🙂 He did a great job and it’s right in line with what I was hoping for.
