I’m using Lavalier.. I haven’t had to file a claim though, so can’t say if they’re great or anything, but they cover “msyerious dissapearances” which is the main way they differ from homeowners insurance.

I was told by my homeowners insurance agent to NOT add jewelry insurance to your HO insurance because should you need to make a claim on the jewlrey – it WILL affect your HO premiums. Keep them seperate.. Jewlers Mutual was who they recommended

carre2016:  I use jeweler’s mutual/perfect circle. So far so good, and it was an easy process to get coverage and add other items, but I have not had to file a claim yet. HO insurance isn’t the best option since often the deductible is high, and the coverage can be limited to incidents happening in your home and no coverage if you’re on vacation or even just out running errands. You can read your HO policy or talk to an agent, in case your jewelry coverage is actually decent, but I found having separate insurance to just be easier.

Jeweler’s Mutual. I like my homeowner’s/car insurance company but know that jewelry has a high claims rate and would hate to get kicked off my homeowner’s/car insurance policies.  That could cause huge problems with my mortgage, so it’s easier to just separate it.

my Fiance just went through his auto insurance agent (also his home ins, etc) which happens to be State Farm.

Bonus  -you get bundling discounts. Definitely get a quote from your regular car insurance agent 🙂

We used USAA (which is where we have our other insurance) and I actually lost my first engagement ring.  They were amazing – I was so glad we went with them.

Jewelers mutual is popular but we opted against it after hearing horror stories about people who actually had to file claims. It’s on renters now but I’d love something more comprehensive. Seems like there’s nothing great out there, at least that I’ve found.

samira86:  Where did you hear the horror stories about Jeweler’s Mutual? I feel like I’ve only seen positive reviews for them here on the Bee…. if anything, I was advised against added it onto my rentor’s insurance (which would be about 50% cheaper than JM). I would’ve preferred to add to my renter’s insurance but decided to fork over the extra money for JM just in case something happened. Now you have my worried – would love to learn more about what you heard!

My rental insurance company (Allstate) told me to go through Jewer’s Mutual for a better rate, which I did, and it was.

JM like the rest of the posters said. They were also very reasonable when compared to other places I looked at
