You know I didn’t want one myself but my Fiance did but it’s not mandatory no. Most of the people I know who got married didn’t have them I think it’s been a newer phenomenon vs back in the day. People get them done for pictures around the wedding site I think but if you have enough of them with your Fiance you can use without an engagement session don’t feel obligated to get one. Sometimes though you can find a photog that will do it for free when you book your wedding with them and at that rate why not. I ultimately decided to for that reason.

Absolutely.  You can’t legally get married without engagement photos.

Just kidding.

@futurebride2014:  If your fiancé doesn’t like taking pictures, then I would suggest doing them so he is more used to what it will be like on the wedding day. My fiancé is the same way so I have to train him up!

We didn’t do engagement photos. Honestly we just kinda kept putting them off then ran out of time.

Definitely not mandatory, but I think their popularity has increased lately.  I think they’re a good idea, not only to have some nice photos (how often do you get portraits done by a pro photographer?), but also oftentimes wedding photographers will have packages that include an engagement session, and those are great opportunities to get to know your photog and their shooting style better.

@elysion:   Yes that’s another good reason to get comfortable with the photographer and in front of the camera! It’d def help especially if it’s included!
